SPEAKERS
Dr. Claire Windeyer, Associate Professor, University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Windeyer attended the University of Guelph, where she completed a bachelor’s of science degree followed by a doctorate of veterinary medicine. After graduation, she went into rural mixed practice in southern Alberta. Claire then returned to the Ontario Veterinary College to pursue a doctorate of veterinary science focused in ruminant health management.
Dr. Windeyer has been recognized for her contributions to academics and leadership and has volunteered in global initiatives, including the Healthy Yak Project along the trekking route to Mount Everest. She joined the Department of Production Animal Health at the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. She was a participant in the Cattlemen’s Young Leaders program in 2013. Dr. Windeyer lives on a small acreage near Dogpound, Alberta, with her partner Bruce and their four horses.
Dr. Roger Richard, DVM, Shoal Lake Veterinary Clinic
Dr. Richard graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. He worked in Pilot Mound, Manitoba, before arriving at the Virden Animal Hospital in 1991. He joined the ownership in 1993 and was involved in all facets of mixed animal practice.
As the practice in Virden grew, Dr. Richard was able to focus on his main interest: beef production. He married his wife Carla in 1994 and raised a family of three daughters that are now following their own careers. Dr. Richard left Virden in 2022 and, along with Carla, moved their 90-head commercial cow-calf operation north along the south boundary of Riding Mountain National Park. They currently run their herd on a yard site his grandfather started in 1928. Dr. Richard continues to practice bovine medicine out of the Shoal Lake Vet Clinic on a part time basis.
Heidi Bennett, Cow Boss and Activity Coordinator, W.A. Ranches
Bennett got into ranching by keeping cows on the trail with her trusty pony at her family ranch in the mountains of British Columbia. She enjoys the unique adventure each season brings throughout the year, especially being able to keep cows happy and healthy.
W.A. Ranches at the University of Calgary is extra special due to the challenge of research, visitors and students on top of the tasks of running a ranch. Bennett takes pride in bringing positivity and patience to work every day and appreciates research that supports fellow cattlemen and the industry. She shares her ranching journey with her husband Jonny, who is the ranch manager at W.A. Ranches. They are raising their two kids, Dusty and Billy, ranch style in a cabin in the woods northwest of Cochrane.

All you need to do is register beforehand, and about 5-10 minutes before the webinar is scheduled to begin, click the link you were provided when you registered. Then turn up your computer speakers or call the phone number provided. That’s it! Sit back and enjoy.
