Speakers
Linda Jewell, MSc, PhD – Plant Pathologist, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
Linda obtained her BSc and MSc from the University of Ottawa, specializing in organic and natural product chemistry. She then completed a PhD in plant pathology at the University of Guelph, utilizing the tools of bioinformatics, molecular biology, and traditional plant pathology to investigate the low-temperature cereal pathogens Microdochium nivale and M. majus. Next, Linda completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the NARO-Hokkaido Agricultural Research Center in Sapporo, Japan, continuing her work on Microdochium nivale by investigating the genetic basis for apparent cellulose synthesis by a fungal species, and performed inoculation trials to probe the relationship between low temperature acclimation and disease severity in Arabidopsis. Linda joined Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada as a research scientist in plant pathology in 2015. Her current research involves identifying, characterizing, and monitoring plant diseases on forages, berries, and vegetables.
